There must be something bad
in the air this weekend in Manchester, because it is extremely rare that both
Manchester teams ever lose in the same weekend.
More significantly, Man.
United rarely ever loses two matches in a row! West Brom has not won at Old
Trafford in over three decades. West Brom scored in the fifth minute when
Amalfitano threaded three of the Man U defenders and then chipped De Gea on the
one-on-one. Wayne Rooney would come through again for the Red Devils scoring in
the 57th off a free kick from the corner of the box. West Brom displayed
excellent ball movement throughout the game. Great ball movement in the 67th
set up Berahino who slotted a ball past De Gea from beyond the 18-yard mark.
This
loss places Man. U in an unfamiliar spot: in the bottom half of the table. Just
saying that doesn’t sound right! Safe to say new coach David Moyes has all eyes
on him as the fans look for adjustments next week against lowly Sunderland.
The blue half of Manchester
is just as frustrated this weekend after losing earlier this year to newcomers
Cardiff City. Man. City lost to Aston Villa after appearing to have the game
secured early on. However, they seemed to get too complacent and relaxed on an
Aston Villa team that wants to prove something. They have had their moments of
brilliance thus far, beating Arsenal, and their disappoints, such as losing 4-0
to Tottenham. This game was something special to watch!
Aston Villa turned the some
heads when El Ahmadi scored the equalizer in the 50th, but order seemed to have
been restored when Dzecko scored in the 56th. Villa stunned again when Bacuna
converted a perfect free kick from about 25 yards. A staggered Man City couldn’t
regain their form. Two minutes later, Adreas Weimann would split both Man City
center backs off of a punt, and placed a slow roller past a charging Joe Hart
to give Villa the lead. This was an excellent win for Aston Villa, but a harder
loss for Man City who now sit in fifth place in the table.
The early Chelsea vs
Tottenham London derby game proved to be the battle it was expected to be. Gylfi Sigurdsson put the Spurs up early by powering
through John Terry in the box and sliding the ball past check in the 19th
minute. John Terry would equalize things later in the 65th when he went
unmarked on a free kick and put a header past a helpless Hugo Lloris. Fernando
Torres’ received a brutal red card with ten minutes left for a weak 50/50
tussle with a Tottenham defender. The send off killed Chelsea’s offensive
momentum.
