Today Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan named Rex Grossman, 30, the starting QB for the final three games of the regular season, benching Donovan McNabb, 34, in the process. McNabb, who signed a five-year, $78 million contract extension with Washington earlier this season, started all 13 regular season games this year for the 5-8 'Skins.
“I talked to Donovan [on Thursday] after practice and I told him that once we were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs that I made a decision to start Rex Grossman,” Shanahan said in a press conference on Redskins.com. “I want to get a feel on how Rex runs our offense the next three weeks."
Grossman started 31 games in his eight-year career. The Chicago Bears drafted Grossman 22nd overall in the 2003 NFL Draft. He has thrown 33 touchdown and 36 interceptions in his career.
