Time Slipping Away From Celtics

In a recent ESPN Boston article, Ray Allen said he was ready to give up the NBA season if necessary. This is a nice showing of harmony within the player’s union, by a long-time veteran, showing David Stern and the owners that the players are also ready to miss a full season to get what they want.

But putting aside the nice gesture, how would a lost season affect the Boston Celtics—from most points of view, not favorably. As you well know, the Celtics are old. The original big three (take note, Miami, age comes quickly, as does the receding hairline, right LeBron?) includes Kevin Garnett (35), Paul Pierce (33), and Ray Allen (36). They don’t have many years left to contend. Some may even say their window has closed. Rajon Rondo is their young hope at age 25, so Boston is one of the last teams that want a work stoppage.

But it is nice to see unity between the players, something the owners didn’t have a week ago.
