Denver Changes QB

 Is Tim Tebow the answer for the Broncos, or just the flavor or the week? By Danielle Berman

Last week, Denver Broncos head coach John Fox made the decision to start QB Tim Tebow over veteran QB Kyle Orton, and the media immediately began speculating. How would Denver fare against the Miami Dolphins with Tebow as a starter? How long will Tebow’s starting career last?

Tebow has had haters since the day he was drafted in 2010. People claimed he would be a better tight end than quarterback, that he was too inexperienced to lead a team and too cocky to really pan out. Tebow showed a glimmer of hope for Broncos fans last year against the Houston Texans when he led his team to a 24-23 comeback victory.

He did it again this year, proving that he could be the answer to the Broncos struggling quarterback controversy. But he might not be the best answer. The first three quarters of the game went horribly for Denver, with Tebow accumulating seven sacks and completing only 40 passing yards in their first 11 drives. Luckily for Denver, Miami was only able to generate six points before the fourth quarter. In fact, both teams failed to convert their first 13 third down plays. The Dolphins made the score 15-0 before Tebow led the Broncos to a 15 point comeback to send the game into overtime.

Tebow led Denver to victory, but it took over three quarters for him to become a factor in the game. Is this the guy to whom Denver wants to hand over the reins?

Miami Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (a former teammate of Tebow’s at the University of Florida) seems to think Tebow could be the answer. In an interview with ESPN following the game, Pouncey said, "It's tough to say, but man, Timmy did a great job. Hopefully the critics will get off him about what he can't do and talk about the things that he can do, and that's figure out a way to win the game, no matter what."

Denver fans seem to agree with Pouncey: an ugly win is better than a loss. Denver is ready for a quarterback that will lead them to the most victories, percentages and statistics be damned. All that matters is the win-loss column. We will soon learn what Tebow’s future has in store for him as the Broncos head home to face the Detroit Lions. Can he be a consistent winner? Head coach John Fox is hoping that answer is yes.
