Two Faced Ravens

Although they may be proving a somewhat dominate team, the Ravens have proven streaky on the offensive side of the ball. By Danielle Berman

The Baltimore Ravens have proven themselves dominant so far this season. Since they completely tore apart the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Ravens have put away opponents including the St. Louis Rams, the New York Jets, and the Houston Texans.

Unfortunately, another thing the Ravens have proven to be is offensively inconsistent. In week 2, the Ravens suffered a 26-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans. In that game, the Ravens offense displayed a completely different identity than they showed against their archrival Steelers.

Which Ravens offense is going to show up? That’s the question many coaches around the league wonder when their schedule matches up with John Harbaugh and company. If the Ravens offense shows up, you better be ready for them.

But in this past week’s game against the Texans, the Ravens came out slow. Billy Cundiff made five field goals to keep the Ravens on top. The Ravens finished strong, a problem they have reversed from last season. Finishing is a step in the right direction, but the still lingering inconsistency is a worry to Ravens fans all over.

On the other side of the ball, the Baltimore defense hasn’t missed a step. Under new defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano, ILB Ray Lewis and company have proven more aggressive than anyone could have predicted, earning the name “fearless” from the media. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the offense, which seems to have earned a giant question mark.

Only time will tell as the Ravens move into the middle part of their schedule. They face the 1-5 Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football and then head home to face the Arizona Cardinals before heading up to Pittsburgh on November 6th to face the Steelers. Watch out for that explosive Ravens offense, you won’t know when it will rear its head.
