The Wind of Change in Detroit

A new era is brewing in Detroit sports, and the Pistons could jump on board this season. By Cassie DiLaura

     The Detroit Lions beat the Dallas Cowboys, the Detroit Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Detroit Tigers take a 2-1 lead over the New York Yankees. With all the excitement surrounding Detroit sports, many anxiously await to see if the Detroit Pistons will uphold the excitement this fall. 
     Within the past few months, the Pistons finished making alterations to the franchise by hiring Lawrence Frank as head coach. Just recently, Brian Hill joined the roster as an assistant coach along with Roy Rogers, Dee Brown, and John Loyer. The most promising aspect for the franchise, however, is finding ownership with investor Tom Gores after two years of being on the market.
     To accompany their fresh coaching staff, the Pistons have a fresh group of talent to mix with some seasoned vets. Despite a lack of experience, rookies Brandon Knight and Kyle Singler and veterans Greg Monroe and Austin Daye might be the key pieces for Detroit to return to contention this season. Monroe's work ethic paid off in his rookie season, earning him the 6th spot in the Rookie of the Year voting. A strong offensive pairing of Monroe with Jonas Jerebko could set up better shots for the Piston’s shooting guards, which seem to be the team’s biggest weakness recently. These four youngsters have the opportunity to step up this season and relieve guards Rip Hamilton and Ben Gordon, who haven’t produced for the Pistons in the past two years.
     With a fresh start and some fresh talent for the franchise, the Pistons can finally focus on the court and rebuild themselves as a dominant Eastern Conference power this season.
