The Tennessee Volunteers (2-0) are off to a strong start. Tennessee defeated UNC Greensboro 92-63 and University of Louisiana-Monroe 85-62. Much of the hot start can be attributed to the stellar play of Trae Golden.
Golden, a sophomore guard, dropped 29 points in the season opener against UNC Greensboro on 10 of 14 shooting, including five of nine “Traes” from beyond the arc. He added nine assists and six rebounds. Against Louisiana-Monroe, he had 17 points and 11 assists. Golden’s 23 points and 10 assists per game both lead the team.
Despite averaging a mere three points per game last year, Golden has embraced his new role as the starting point guard and has flourished.
Starting the year 2-0 was expected for the Volunteers, yet they face two extremely daunting opponents in two of their next three games. Tennessee plays Duke (#6) and Pittsburgh (#9) and will rely heavily on Golden to shine.
