The Spartans defeated the Buckeyes over the weekend, leaving them with the blues.

Saturday night, No. 11 Michigan State beat No. 3 Ohio State 58-48 in Columbus.  The Spartans moved in to tie Ohio State at the number 1 ranking in the Big Ten Conference and ended the Buckeyes 39 home-game winning streak at the same time.

“Ohio State is the best team in the league,” said Spartan head coach Tom Izzo.  “On this given day, we were able to get them.”  It was clear from the start of the game that the Buckeyes were not playing up to their full potential. The Buckeyes rely heavily on sophomore forward Deshaun Thomas and senior guard William Buford, but this game the pair just didn’t produce; they shot an unimpressive two for 24 from the field.

Superstar sophomore forward, Jared Sullinger, scored 17 points accompanied by 16 rebounds. Although, Sullinger’s skills were present this game, he was also visibly frustrated throughout the game.

While much of the focus in the media has been on the Buckeyes’ off game, Michigan State played a relatively good game. Senior forward, Draymond Green, always delivers, he scored 12 points and had nine rebounds.  The Spartans supported Green’s productivity. Sophomore center Adreian Payne had the best game of his career so far and scored 15 points.

Was this game a fluke, or did the Spartans actually derail the Buckeyes?  We’ll find out son, the teams are set to play each other again March 4 in Michigan.
