The Luck of the Irish

It must be the luck of the Irish, because that is probably the only explanation behind Notre Dame’s impressive season thus far.

After losing their star player, Tim Abromaitis, early in the season, it was thought the Irish would struggle, but they are sitting pretty at third in the Big East, behind Syracuse and Marquette.

The Irish coach Mike Brey, has achieved getting his team to play cohesive basketball and they have been getting along just fine with out Abromaitis. After blowing out, then number one and undefeated, Syracuse in South Bend a few weeks ago, the Irish have not looked back and have proven they should not be overlooked.

Teams like Pitt and Uconn have faltered and fell way below expectations, while the Irish have far succeeded all expectations, even those that were set before Abromaitis tore his ACL. With their slow-down pace and the great rebounding of Jack Cooley, the Irish have put their name in the talk for the NCAA tournament, and their head coach is right in contention not only for Big East Coach of the Year, but national coach of the year as well.

Ask anyone if they would trade rosters with Notre Dame and they will look at you like you are crazy. It is beyond impressive what Brey has done with this team this year. He wills his teams to play hard and scrap until the game ends, and because of this they are one of the most entertaining teams to watch. When this team is clicking there is no stopping them. Take the Syracuse game where Syracuse did not have one lead the entire game. Amazing.

Notre Dame may not win the Big East Tournament, and they probably won’t win the NCAA Tournament, but they shouldn’t be counted out just yet. Look at what Uconn did last year. If they can do it why can’t Notre Dame? Besides Notre Dame has the luck of the Irish on their side.
