Mississippi State Drop Out of Top 25

Mississippi State has dropped out the top 25. After being there most of the season, the Bulldogs have slipped to fourth in the conference. Things are looking down for MSU and they’ll likely continue to go downward, as the ‘Dogs square off against the ‘Cats of Kentucky Tuesday night.

The Wildcats are the #1 team in college basketball, with only one loss all season. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, have lost three in a row and are in a serious slump.

One main reason why they’re in such a slump is their inability to finish close games.  They lost 70-68 to Georgia in OT, 69-67 to LSU in OT, and 65-55 to Auburn.

After looking like a synch to make the NCAA tournament a mere few weeks ago, the Bulldogs are now on the bubble and will need to fare well in the SEC tournament to warrant a bid.

If MSU makes the tournament, one reason will be Arnett Moultrie. Moultrie ignites or hinders the Bulldogs’ attack based on his play; he’s the x-factor. He has scored 20+ points nine times this season, and MSU has won all nine of those games. On the flip side, his team is 1-5 in games in which he has scored 10 points or fewer.  

Moultrie will need to play consistently and put up big numbers in order to help the ‘Dogs avoid a collapse.
