The Stanford Cardinals stepped their game up to beat a stumbling USC team. The Cardinals have lost 5 out of its last 6 games. When the Cardinals traveled to USC, they were desperate for a win. The Trojans have only won a single game in conference play this season but still managed to put up a fight. Stanford was able to pull away in the second half to emerge with a 59-47 victory.
Freshman guard, Chasson Randle, led the Cardinals in points and dropped all of his 16 points in the second half. Big man, Josh Owens beat up the USC interior, was 6-8 shooting and finished with 15 points. He was able to contribute to the shocking 44-18 margin in rebounding. It helped that Stanford had one of its better shooting nights. The Cardinals shot 44.9 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range.
With the win, Stanford swept the Trojans this season for the first time since 2005. The Cardinals moved back up to a tie for sixth place and remain three games behind conference leaders Washington and California. Stanford will face three teams ranked above them in the league during the final games of the season. If the Cardinals can escape with victories, the chances of finishing the regular season in the top four of the conference and receiving a first round bye in the tournament could be in reach.
