Packers Handed a Giant Loss

The Packers lose huge to the Giants in a rematch of last year’s NFC Divisional Playoffs

The Giants showed the Packers this weekend exactly why they are the defending NFC and Superbowl champs.  The Giants also showed these overly praised cheese-heads that if they want to reach the NFC elite, they must first get past them.

Tom Coughlin, Syracuse alum and New York Giants head coach, told reporters his game theme for the week, "Play like world champions."

After a 5-game winning streak, the Packers looked like a Pop Warner team, dropping pass after pass, running into one another, missing tackles, and overall just total chaos and miscommunication in every aspect of the game.

The Packers highly profiled defense showed early on that they were no match for Eli Manning and his playmaking associates.  Eli Manning threw for an astounding 249 yards and a remarkable 3 touchdowns on pace to snap Green Bay’s 5-game winning streak.

A big reason for the lackluster defense on the Packers end was due to the injury loss of key pieces, linebacker Clay Matthews and notable defensive back, Charlie Woodson.   It was sure easy to see the significance that these players contribute.  Their absences became present after watching Manning complete world-class passes and a running game from Ahmad Bradshaw that included a combined 119 yards and a touchdown.

The Packers offense was equally as bad as the defense.  The Packers offensive line must have still had their mind on Thanksgiving dinner, as they allowed their quarterback to be sacked five times. Two of these sacks came from linebacker Matthias Kiwanuka, who played nose tackle for a majority of the game. The Packers offense was also short handed due to the injury of big time receiver Greg Jennings.

This blowout defeat was tied for the second worst in Head Coach Mike McCarthy’s career.  This game also set the Packers back from being on top of the NFC North.  They are still one game behind the Bears.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy had some stern words after the defeat Sunday night, “Beaten very thoroughly tonight. Doesn’t taste good, doesn’t feel good.”

We will see next week if Mike McCarthy makes the changes necessary to help his Packers get back on track and bounce back against division rivals, the Minnesota Vikings.
