The Brooklyn Nets took the
cake for a successful offseason this summer, signing off contracts with former
Boston Celtics’ players Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Jason Terry, and hiring
Jason Kidd as the new head coach.
Future hall-of-famers Garnett
and Pierce took some time getting used to the fact that they are no longer
playing for Boston, but they have come to the Nets with the mentality of
winning a championship.

These two seasoned veterans
are going to contribute all-around to Brooklyn’s play. Coming from the defensive-focused Celtics,
Garnett and Pierce are going to up the Nets’ defensive play and
aggressiveness.
KG won the Defensive Player
of the Year award in 2008 and was even a competitor for the award for the
2012-2013 season. He is known for his
trash talking, chest punching, and passion on the court that will hopefully
push the Nets to become more aggressive in all areas of play.
Offensively, Garnett and
Pierce offer improvement in ball-movement, scoring, rebounds, and
intensity. Terry will bring a bit of an
offensive spark as well. All this
combined with superstar Deron Williams will make the Nets a dangerous offensive
team.
To top it off, Brooklyn hired
an incredibly talented point guard to coach the team. Kidd is going to make a world of difference
to the Nets’ mentality. With his high
basketball IQ and knowledge coming from being a top passer and defender with a
recent championship ring, he will be able to push Brooklyn in a successful
direction.
“Championship teams are built
on being prepared, playing unselfishly, and being held accountable, and that’s
how I expect to coach this basketball team,” Kidd said in an interview with
ESPN NY.
With this combination of
talent and basketball IQ, the Nets are sure to be Eastern Conference and
championship contenders.
