Phoenix Coyotes vs. Boston Bruins, 12pm, VersusThese non-conference opponents open their season in Boston. The Coyotes returned to the playoffs last season for the first time since the 2001-2002 season. The fourth-seeded 'Yotes took the Detroit Red Wings to Game 7 only to lose in a 6-1 blowout at home.
The Bruins, though, had a much more tumultuous end to their season. The Bruins led the Flyers 3-0 in the second round of the playoffs and seemingly had a trip to the Eastern Conference finals all but sewn up. Before the team knew it, the Bruins were playing the Flyers in Game 7. Boston jumped to a 3-0 lead, which disappeared by the end of the second period. A goal by Simon Gagne with 7:08 left in the game ended the Bruins' season very unceremoniously.
Prediction: The Bruins will be on a mission this season to erase last season's embarrassing end. The Coyotes are the first victims.
