Last week we reported that Kobe Bryant had an offer from Virtus Bologna, an Italian team. Now, it seems that Kobe has verbally accepted the offer. But that doesn’t make this a done deal.
Virtus Bologna wants to make sure they can pay Kobe what he wants. In a bold move, they are asking the rest of the league to not only change the schedule, but also allow Bryant to play in bigger games and Virtus Bologna to have more home games during the five-time champion’s stay.
It seems like an uphill battle- to change the schedule after it is already made-even if it is for a player as popular as Bryant. Kobe wants his tenure in the league to help as many teams as possible. While it is an admirable gesture, there are teams that do not want to change the schedule.
If Kobe does join the team, he will play with fellow NBAer Chris Douglas-Roberts. CDR most recently played for Milwaukee, but also played in New Jersey for two years. Roberts joined Virtus Bologna in early September.
If this deal is finalized, Bryant would be the biggest NBA star to leave for greener pastures during the lockout and he would also have the biggest contract. The deal is worth $3 million for ten games.
