The San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos met on Monday night in what turned out to be one of the best games of the NFL season thus far. This division rivalry game would be the first between the two teams since Peyton Manning joined the Broncos this yea.  Manning, after a slow start, finished the game going 24 for 30 with 309 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 INT.

In the first half, the Chargers charged ahead and took a HUGE 24-0 lead into halftime. It looked like the Broncos could not handle the tandem of Phillip Rivers and Antonio Gates. In addition, the Broncos had coughed up the ball twice on special teams and Manning had thrown a pick-six.

The Broncos would start the third quarter with a 29-yard touchdown from Manning to Demaryius Thomas. On the next San Diego possession, Elvis Dumervil stripped the ball from Phillip Rivers and Tony Carter ran 65 yards for a touchdown to cut the Chargers lead to just 10 points.

After the Broncos forced the Chargers to punt on the next drive, Peyton Manning threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Eric Decker to bring Denver within three. The Broncos took their very first lead of the contest after Manning threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Stokley who came up with a dazzling catch on their next possession.

The 28-24 lead highlighted the 28 straight points that were scored by the Broncos. With 2:05 left in the fourth quarter, Chris Harris sealed the victory with a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown off of Phillip Rivers. This was his second interception of the game to cap off a spectacular performance for himself and the Broncos.

It is clear that Peyton Manning was the catalyst of this great comeback. He is really starting to hit his stride with the team. He has the ability to make the whole team better, which was showed with this victory.

“We came out in the second half, everybody was accountable and professional,” he said in his post-game press conference. “We had 30 minutes and I thought it was important to get off to a good start with that first drive. Hitting “DT” for the touchdown really set the tempo for the second half.”

Both teams are heading into the bye-week at 3-3 after this historic game. The Chargers are in disarray, while the Broncos are thriving. In the comments below, how you think these two teams will fair for the rest of the season.
