The Search for the Next EP Mascot

Last September, EP chose a random Top-25 team as its darling for the 2010 college football season. The team? Auburn. The mascot? The Auburn toothbrush, which could not be stopped.

"The Auburn toothbrush cannot be stopped."
Auburn, of course, defeated Oregon last Monday to claim the school's second national championship. It was truly a magical season for the Tigers and band-wagoners like the EP staff. The days of celebrating the toothbrush, though, must wait until the fall. Fortunately, the search for a new EP darling has come to a swift and decisive end.

We have chosen the Atlanta Thrashers as our new baby. But now, we need a mascot. This mascot will have a hard task ahead. The Auburn toothbrush's sheer dominance of the SEC certainly set the bar high. As of right now, the Thrashers sit at eighth place in the Eastern Conference. With dominant forwards like Dustin Byfulgien and Evander Kane, the Thrashers are built to contend for years in the hit-and-miss Southeastern division. A return to the playoffs, though, can do wonders for the organization that traded away franchise player Ilya Kovalchuk last season and all-star Marian Hossa three years ago. This new mascot will need to push the Thrashers to the next level.

Now, without further ado, the candidates:

Who: Blue Crew

Why: Too cliche. Every arena seems to have ice girls nowadays.

Who: Blatant sign

Why: Simply hilarious. The sign takes the most round about way to ask the crowd to get loud.
Who: Thrasher cup holder

Why: Where can you buy these? It has the same feel as the Auburn toothbrush, but it is still unique (toothbrushes can't hold cans and bottles).

Who: Lil' Jon

Why: That picture sells itself. The rapper holds a chalice while slinging his arm over one of the most sacred  trophies in all of sport as though the two were sitting in a club.

  1. I'd like to announce my candidate as the Thrashers cup holder.
